Motion Detector Deer Repellent

Motion detectors are not on all mechanical deer repellents, but they can make all the difference on whether of not the repellent will be effective. Some people even make their own motion sensors or buy commercially available sensors and add them to their own controllers. These controllers work great in many situations.  If you read reviews you will find many people talking about owning several of these for all areas of their landscape.

There are three motion detector deer repellent products that stand out when we talk about deer controls with sensors that spray water.

Costway Scarecrow Deer Repeller

Are you having trouble with deer eating the vegetables in your garden? The Costway Scarecrow deer repeller may be the solution you've been searching for. The Scarecrow is a motion-activated sprinkler that shoots a stream of water at any animal it detects in the covered area. This effectively scares deer, raccoons, dogs and other animals that try to enter your garden.

The Costway Scarecrow deer repeller comes fully assembled and ready to use. Simply attach it to a standard garden hose and set it so that it faces the area you wish to protect. Make sure there are no walkways or other areas of human traffic in the coverage area, or you may end up spraying more than just animals.

It is recommended to set the Scarecrow's motion sensor to the most sensitive setting so that even small animals will be detected. Once the system is in place, it will protect your garden 24 hours per day for up to six months before the battery needs to be replaced. It uses a standard 9 volt battery.

How Does It Work?

By shooting a concentrated stream of water at intruders, the Scarecrow provides an unpleasant experience for any animal detected by its motion sensor. This, combined with the noise and movement, scares the animal away from the protected area. Because the system operates 24 hours per day, every day, the training is consistent and animals learn to stay away from the area guarded by the system.

When you need to work in the garden yourself, be sure to turn the system off using the on/off switch before you begin working. The Costway Scarecrow deer repeller is an effective solution for protecting your garden from unwanted pests. With this system in place, you can be sure that the only one eating your vegetables is you.

The Orbit 62100 Yard Enforcer Motion-Activated Sprinkler

The only deterrent sprinkler on the market with options for day only, night only, or 24 hour protection, giving you the flexibility to ensure the Yard Enforcer only activates when you need it.  It has optimum water and battery conservation; get over 7,500 activation cycles on just 4 AA alkaline batteries and as little as 2 cups of water per activation.

The Yard Enforcer is a motion-activated sprinkler that combines sound, water, and motion. It passive infrared motion sensor that detects animals from up to 40 feet away, even at night, to give you maximum protection, and its intelligent sensing technology learns the difference between animals and tree limbs blowing in the wind to prevent overwatering.  Unlike some other water repellers, the dual-purpose sprinkler has a timed watering feature that allows you to water your garden 30 minutes at a time

The Havahart 5277 Critter Ridder Motion Activated Animal Repellent and Sprinkler

This motion-activated sprinkler attaches to the garden hose. Just hook it up to your garden hose, plug in the 9-Volt battery and then place the stake in the ground near area to be protected. When an animal is seen, a valve opens, and instantly releases a three-second pulsating spray of water.

The combination of the sudden noise, movement, and water frightens animals away. It is a clean alternative to repellant, but is limited to the distance the water can spray. Both a pro and con is that it is motion activated sensing motion and heat the same way security lights work.  This motion could be deer, your dog or cat, or you. One Havaheart can cover up to 1,000 square feet.

Havaheart Water Repeller Set Up

Connect all four pieces of the unit by screwing them together. Then insert 2 AA batteries (not included) into the battery compartment. Turn the sensitivity knob to setting 4. Move hand across the sensor until the valve clicks. You will hear another click approximately 5 seconds later. Once the valve clicks the second time, the unit is working properly. Stake the unit into the ground wherever you’d like to repel animals and adjust the range as necessary. Attach a standard garden hose to the connector. Test the device to make sure the sensor detects your movement at the selected range.
