This course includes 3 online video lessons and a field guide you can print off. There are lessons on Northern Cool Season Grasses, Southern Warm-Season Grasses, and a Turfgrass ID Review lesson. You can use these lessons to train your employees.

Lesson 1: Course Overview

In this lesson we will preview the main points in the next three lessons. We will go over basic the basic parts of grasses where we will be looking for identification clues such as ligules and seed heads. Main differences in cool season and warm season grasses.

Lesson 2: Northern Turfgrass

After this lesson you will be able to identify the main cool season Northern grasses. Can you look at pictures and identify Kentucky Bluegrass or Fescue currently?You have to be able to identify Northern grasses from Southern grasses or you risk using the wrong weed control products and fertilizing at the wrong time with the wrong fertilizer.

Lesson 3: Southern Turfgrass

Some Southern weed control can hurt St. Augustine, Centipede, and Zoysia but be fine for bermuda. After this lesson you should be able to think through a flow chart of questions in your brain and end up with the correct grass type. After this lesson you should be able to identify the basic Southernturf grasses.

Lesson 4: Putting it all together review

Review of the main points of both the Northern and Southern grasses. How to identify key points. Test your knowledge and come back to this lesson for a refresher. You can use this lesson for employee training and review.

Lesson 5: What’s next?

This lesson is a follow up with suggestions of what you can do with this knowledge. Suggestions to help you build your business and grow your profit.

After these lessons you will be able to identify turfgrasses you encounter on lawns. You will have videos to use as study guides for your applicators test.
